TWO people have been arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender as part of the investigation into the murder of a Coventry teenager.

Michael Ababio, 18, suffered a stab wound during disorder outside Foleshill Library in Broad Street at around 9.40pm on Sunday (February 22). He was pronounced dead early the following day.

Police investigating the murder have raided four addresses in the city and elsewhere and recovered a number of items of evidence.

A man and a woman, aged 42 and 31, have been arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender.

Police say they are also searching for a number of other suspects.

A 19-year-old man who was found nearby with stab wounds shortly after the incident was taken to hospital. He was initially arrested on suspicion of murder, but has now been de-arrested. He remains in custody on suspicion of possession with intent to supply Class A drugs.

Officers are also investigating a second disorder which happened nearby in Foleshill Road around 20 minutes after the fatal attack, which they do not believe to be directly related.

A man has since been charged with assault over the second disorder, and remanded in custody.

A West Midlands Police spokesperson said: “We believe videos showing both incidents are being circulated on social media and through private messaging apps.

“We would urge people to think of Michael’s family and not to share any footage, out of respect for him and to ensure our investigation is not compromised.”

Det Supt Jim Munro from West Midlands Police’s Homicide team added: “This is a complex enquiry involving a number of people who were at the scene, and we are relentlessly working to identify and arrest them.

“For the sake of Michael’s family, I would urge people to get in touch with any information they have.”
