THE THOUGHTS of people across the city have this week been with those across the channel following the terrorist attacks in Paris.
Many joined the rest of Europe on Monday in a minute’s silence to remember those who lost their lives during the atrocities on the streets of the French capital three days earlier.
But while the world has united in grief and condemnation, a defiant message has been sent to the terrorists that they will not win.
Geoffrey Robinson, Coventry North west Labour MP, said: “Everybody’s shocked. Every decent human being feels desparately sorry for the Parisians and hatred of those responsible.
“But revenge alone is not appropriate. We need an overall programme for defeating Isis, not just bombing. We need to step up to the plate as a nation. It needs the bombing and others are doing that, but it needs more than that.”
He said sending in troops on the ground in places like Syria should not be part of the response.”
