Schools a big hit at games festival

COVENTRY’S schools enjoyed some success at the recent Coventry, Solihull and Warwickshire Sainsbury’s School Games Festival.

Corley School took gold and silver in the secondary mixed boccia while the school won silver in the inclusive secondary mixed football.

There were also second place finishes for Whitley Academy in the under 13’s girls’ football, Willenhall Primary in the mixed boccia, Castlewood in the inclusive primary mixed football, All Soul’s Primary in the High 5’s netball and Eastern Green Primary in the boys’ pentathlon.

Third places were won by Finham Park in the primary mixed football, Coundon Court in the year seven netball, and Bablake in the year seven girls’ swimming and year nine boys’ swimming.

Rugby hosted the games which saw more than 1,200 primary and secondary school pupils compete at events such as swimming, football, netball, rowing, boccia and modern pentathlon

Tony Wilmot, chairman of CSW Sport’s PE and school sport steering group, said: “We could not have wished for a better venue than the new Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Centre.”
