RUGBY supporters can avoid the scrums on their way to Wasps’ first match at the Ricoh Arena this month by taking a boat.
A big crowd is expected when the Aviva Premiership club play their first match in Coventry against London Irish on December 21.
But supporters can sidestep the crowds and kick traffic into touch by taking a water taxi, following the Living Environment Trust’s announcements that it will be offering transport to and from the Ricoh on board its Coventrian narrowboat.
Passengers will be picked up at Canal Basin at 11.15am or Swan Lane Wharf in the city from 12.00pm before being transported to the Ricoh Arena by 1.00pm, in plenty of time for the 2pm kick-off.
They will then be picked up from the venue at 4.45pm and returned to Canal Basin or Swan Lane Wharf following the match.
Raffaella Tentindo, of the Living Environment Trust, said: “Wasps’ first Premiership match in the city is set to be a big event so we have decided to make the Coventrian available, given how popular it has been in the past.
“The water taxi was a big hit when transporting people to and from the Ricoh Arena during the London 2012 Olympic Games, as well as for concerts and Coventry City matches.
“We expect a lot of interest once again so I would advise those thinking of travelling to the match by boat to book early in order to avoid disappointment.
“With a fully licensed bar and food available, there is always a great atmosphere on board – and it’s cheaper than a taxi too.”
Tickets are priced at £6 for adults one way, £10 return, and £5 for children one way, £8 return, with a 10 per cent discount for Wasps season ticket holders. Free, secure car parking is available at Swan Lane Wharf.
