THE OBSERVER has team with Coventry City’s Former Players’ Association (CCFPA) to bring you all the latest news, events and signings.

In this week’s fortnightly column we reveal who came out on top in the Association’s end of season awards and also look ahead to its annual Golf Day.

Skipper Jim O’Brien was announced as the association’s Player of the season after beating off the challenge of fellow midfielder John Fleck.

It proved to be a clean sweep for O’Brien after he was also presented with three similar accolades from the club’s London Supporters Club, the Sky Blues’ Welsh Supporters and the Sky Blues Irish Supporters’ Association.

O’Brien collected his award in front of fans inside the G-Casino following Saturday’s 3-1 defeat to Crewe.

He was presented with his trophy by CCFPA vice-chairman Billy Bell, who also interviewed O’Brien on stage before he was given a generous applause by the City faithful in recognition for his contribution throughout the campaign.

Arrangements for Golf Day 2015 are coming along nicely with both former players and teams signing up for the second annual reunion of the year.

Stoneleigh Deer Golf Club will once again be the venue on June 4 which will involve 18 rounds of golf, a three course dinner, the prize presentation and plenty of entertainment and fun along the way.

Former players already signed up include defending champion Andy Blair, Carl Baker, Dave Busst, Willie Carr, Ronnie Farmer, Micky Gynn, Steve Ogrizovic, David Phillips, Ian Wallace and many more.

There are just 22 tee times available so those interested in booking as an individual or a team are advised to act quickly.

There are now just two weeks to go secure an early bird discount of £70 for the event which ends on May 4.
