17 firefighters battled Coventry house blaze

A TOTAL of 17 firefighters battled a blaze through the night at a house in Hillfields, Coventry.

Emergency services responded to the incident reported at Blythe Road shortly before 10.35pm last night (Wednesday).

Four fire engines from Coventry, Foleshill, and Canley were at the scene within four minutes of the 999 call coming in.

The fire broke out in a terraced house. The entire ground floor of the property was engulfed in flames, and heavy smoke had filled the premises.

The fire was successfully put out by 11.20pm and as a precautionary measure, neighbouring properties were thoroughly inspected for signs of fire spread – none were affected.

Paramedics treated one man at the scene for smoke inhalation and he was discharged with no serious injuries.

Investigations suggest the fire started accidentally and fire crews remained on-site until 1.42pm to dampen down the area.

This morning, crews revisited the site to check for potential hotspots and further visits were planned throughout the day.
