COVENTRY Sphinx slipped to a heavy 5-1 defeat at home to Shepshed Dynamo with the club yet to secure their league status this season.
Sphinx drew level in the first half as Leo Brown cancelled out Jack Lynch’s early opener only for Shepshed to score four unanswered goals at the Sphinx Industrial Supplies Arena.
The result means Coventry sit 16th in the Northern Premier League Midlands table, six points clear of the relegation zone with three games left to play.
Dynamo stunned Sphinx to take the lead on five minutes as Lynch’s low shot found the bottom corner from outside the penalty area.
However, the home side equalised on 27 minutes when Brown cut the ball back onto his right foot before powering a low shot past Brandon Ganley in the Dynamo goal.
Shepshed reclaimed the lead in first-half injury time when Niall Prenderville headed in a corner from close range.
The visitors stretched their lead on 58 minutes as Elwalid Elhaghany forced the ball home before Shaun Ruzvidzo sealed the points for Dynamo on the counter attack seven minutes from time.
And Shepshed completed the scoring in injury time when Kyle Dixon scored from the penalty spot after Louis Guest committed a foul in the box.
Coventry are next in action away at Anstey Nomads on Saturday, April 13 with kick-off at 3pm at Cropston Road.
