COVENTRY City came from behind to secure a 3-1 win against League One side Stevenage in their latest pre-season outing.

After Dan Phillips scored an early opener for the hosts, goals from Justin Obikwu, Bobby Thomas and Fabio Tavares put the Sky Blues in command at the Lamex Stadium.

Stevenage took the lead with the first attempt of the game on two minutes as Phillips fired a powerful driven shot past Bradley Collins from the edge of the penalty area.

However, City won a penalty soon after as the Stevenage goalkeeper brought down young striker Obikwu in the box.

And Obikwu picked himself up to send the goalkeeper the wrong way from the spot and level the game on 18 minutes.

The Sky Blues completed the turnaround a few minutes later as Thomas guided a header into the net from Josh Eccles’ corner.

Obikwu went close to a second goal on the half-hour mark from Jay Dasilva’s cross only for the Stevenage goalkeeper to make a superb save.

However, after the Stevenage stopper made another fine save to deny Aidan Dausch, Tavares extended Coventry’s lead moments before the break when he turned home Obikwu’s pull back.

City continued to dominate after the break as Tavares saw his effort from distance well-saved.

At the other end, Jordan Roberts raced through on goal only to drag a shot wide before Collins expertly denied Phillips his second of the game with a save low down.

Mark Robins made 11 changes on 66 minutes and Tatsuhiro Sakamoto almost made an immediate impact as he twisted and turned down the right only to see his goalbound effort blocked.

Jake Bidwell’s bursting run ended with him finding the side netting before the Stevenage keeper somehow kept put Ephron Mason-Clark’s header at the back post.

Coventry continue their pre-season campaign against Darmstadt on Saturday, July 27 with kick-off at 1pm at Stadion am Bollenfalltor.
