EPHRON Mason-Clark scored his first Coventry City goal as the Sky Blues secured an impressive 3-0 win against Premier League side Everton in pre-season.

Goals from Ellis Simms, Mason-Clark and Victor Torp sealed a fine win for Mark Robins’ side at the Coventry Building Society Arena.

Prior to kick-off, the stadium came together for a minute’s applause in memory of young Sky Blues supporter Keaton Slater who tragically died after being hit by a car last month. His funeral took place at Coventry Cathedral earlier in the day.

Everton fielded a strong team which featured the likes of Seamus Coleman, Michael Keane, Ashley Young, Dwight McNeil and Dominic Calvert-Lewin.

However, City started well as Mason-Clark tested Everton goalkeeper Joao Virginia early on with an effort from distance.

At the other end, Calvert-Lewin spurned a glorious chance to put Everton ahead as he pulled his shot wide.

The Sky Blues eventually broke the deadlock on 21 minutes when Simms found the back of the net against his former club after Bobby Thomas kept Milan van Ewijk’s cross alive.

City goalkeeper Oliver Dovin then made his first save as he kept out James Garner’s volley from just inside the penalty area.

And Coventry doubled their lead after the break on 62 minutes as Mason-Clark headed home Tatsuhiro Sakamoto’s cross past Virginia at the back post.

Sky Blues midfielder Kasey Palmer then forced Virginia into a smart save as the Jamaica international tried his luck with a free-kick from 25-yards out.

City completed the scoring on 75 minutes when Torp unleashed a powerful effort into the bottom corner to cap a fine performance from the Sky Blues.

Coventry finish their pre-season campaign against Werder Bremen on Saturday, August 3 with kick-off at 3pm at the CBS Arena.
