Police donated seized food nappies and clothing to charity

FOOD, nappies and clothes that Police have seized from criminals have been donated to vulnerable people in the community.

The items – which would otherwise have been disposed, – have been donated to charities including Acorns Children’s Hospice, Birmingham Children’s Hospital, Heartlands Hospital Trust, foodbanks and domestic violence centres in the area.

The project has been organised by the Engagement and Consultation Officer Georgina Johnstone and Amie Rogers, our Evidential Property Manager, as a practical way of supporting local people.

Georgina, said: “Over the last two months I have been out and about identifying locations for property to be disseminated to.

“The charities and organisations have been so appreciative and it has helped us build great relationships with partner agencies.

“I was made aware by one charity that a child had been taking food prior to the school holidays from other children’s lunch bags as he was so hungry. We were able to deliver a large bag of food to the family of four children, including lots of treats and chocolate.

“The counterfeit clothing will be de-badged prior to release and will be repurposed and re-designed for free by a designer, for youngsters at the Birmingham Children’s Hospital including those who have had limbs amputated, those with disabilities and those with stoma bags.

“As well as supporting local people who have been hit hard by the cost of living crisis and experienced other difficult circumstances, it also means we are saving public money by not having to pay for disposal of the goods and we’re helping the environment by not adding to landfill too.”
