COVENTRY Building Society donated £15,000 to help a thousand students receive new school uniforms ready for September.

The donation was made to Clothing Coventry, a charity dedicated to addressing clothing poverty in Coventry, after the Society recognised that buying new school uniform is a key concern for many families.

The charity collect and recycle used school uniforms and buy new items when donations are made and is operating a pop-up shop over summer at Queens Road Baptist Church in Coventry which is open until Friday, August, 23.

People need to book a space via the website.

Families can then freely collect quality school uniforms, and while donations are very welcome – particularly donations of old school uniform which children have outgrown – they are not essential.

Katie Wilson, founder of Clothing Coventry said: “Without this donation, we would have had to close after one week.

“We would have run our of clothes which have been donated.

“This donation is helping over 1,000 families be able to get school uniforms ready for September.”

Katie added that the uniforms are a huge expense to families, it is estimated that each child costs over £300 to send to school with the uniform and equipment they need.

“We asked families how much money they have saved, and the majority said around £150, which they will use to buy food for their family.”

Becky Welch, Community Specialist at CBS said: “We want all students of Coventry to feel they are well dressed and smart enough to attend school every day.”
