A JOINT celebration for the founding of the parish of St Nicholas, Radford and the dedication of the first church will take place in September.

The parish will celebrate its 150th anniversary and thank the old church on September 28 at 3pm.

The church was built in the 1950s and may be soon be demolishes, the service aims to remember all good things that happened in the old church as well as look to the future as the congregation continues to worship each week.

Fr Dexter Bracey, who currently looks after the parish, said: “There will be mixed feelings for many about our old church building.

“On the one hand, many will be glad to see an eyesore removed, but others will treasure fond memories of happy occasions in the church.

“It will be good to remember and give thanks for all that as we say a final farewell to the building and look to the future.

“The first church of St Nicholas was destroyed by bombing.

“The second has been destroyed by wind, rain and poor design. But the church carries on, and we meet for regular worship and social activities in the church hall, which will remain in use after the church building has gone.

“All are welcome to join in this celebration. We would particularly love it if anyone is willing to share old pictures or memories of the church with us.”

The parish is asking anyone with any pictures or memories of the church to contact the church warden Les Harlock, on [email protected]
