A CHESS competition is set to hold its grand finale championship with a Coventry champion returning.

The Delancey UK School’s chess challenge will take place in Blenheim Palace this weekend, with over 30 cities across the UK having hosted over 30,000 competitors.

Elis Denele Dicen from Coventry Chess Academy will compete in the U14 section.

Elis holds the distinction of being the only female winner of an open section winning the under 10s in 2021 and the under 12s in 2023.

The challenge is the UKs largest chess tournament and has introduced over 1million children to the game since 1996.

60 players will compete across five categories to determine the 2024 champions.

CEO of The Delancey UK Schools’ Chess Challenge, Sarah Longson, said: “We are delighted to welcome the top 60 chess players in the UK to Blenheim Palace for the Finals of the Delancey UK Chess Challenge.

“This year’s field is the strongest yet with world junior champions in the field who will fight to be the very best in the UK.

“All the matches will be broadcast live from the palace for chess enthusiasts to follow all across the world.”

Jamie Ritblat, the founder and Chairman of Delancey, and long-time sponsor of the tournament, added: “It’s fantastic to see the large numbers competing in the challenge again this year.

“The weekend of the Terafinals is always an exciting one, and it’s a great privilege to be hosted at Blenheim Palace once more.”
