A COVENTRY care home team leader has ran 81.6K to raise awareness for Alzheimer’s Society.

Georgina Garchay, a team leader at Anchor’s Trinity Lodge care home in Coventry, completed the run over 30 days in her local area and park runs at Coventry Memorial Park.

Georgina said everyday she sees the many affects that dementia has, and she wanted to participate in shedding light on such as important topic.

Running has long been a personal hobby for Georgia, and when she came across the opportunity to take part in a sponsored run, it seemed like the perfect way to combine her passion for running with her dedication to supporting those living with dementia.

The journey to 81.6 kilometers, however, was not without its challenges.

She added: “I was injured over the last week. Each run I did took a different effect on my body.

“As I picked up the miles I was running, my ankle become weak, so then the mental strength of commitment came into play.”

Research from Anchor shows that while 52 per cent of people worry about developing dementia, only 39 per cent have ever spoken to loved ones about the condition.

The Alzheimer’s Society is an organisation providing support to people and families affected by the disease, and Georgia’s fundraising efforts highlight the importance of such causes.
