A DONATION of £2,000 has helped the local Armed Forces community in Coventry.
The Royal Air Forces Association Coventry branch closed, and the board donated residual funds to the SSAFA.
The cash was originally provided to RAFA through the Lady Mayoress’s Fund for the specific purpose of supporting RAF veterans in need.
A cheque of £2,017.34 was presented to SSAFA Coventry Divisional Treasurer, Bill Edmonds, and Ray Kirkwood, SSAFA Coventry Branch Treasurer, by RAFA Coventry representatives Dave Palmer and William Taylor.
Dave said: “SSAFA provides invaluable aid to serving and veteran Armed Forces, and their families, in Coventry.
“We’re proud to provide these remaining funds from our branch to the charity to ensure that the funding supports Coventry veterans who may be in need of SSAFA’s vital assistance.”
Bill added: “While it comes as the result of the unfortunate closure of the RAFA Coventry branch, we are honoured to receive this donation and to fulfil its intended purpose.
“We work closely with veterans across Coventry to provide welfare and wellbeing assistance, and the funding will be used in direct support of that work.”
