COVENTRY City have confirmed the appointment of Frank Lampard as the club’s new head coach.
Lampard replaces former Sky Blues boss Mark Robins in the Coventry Building Society Arena hotseat and has signed a two-and-a-half year deal with the club.
The 46-year-old will take charge of Coventry for the first time against Cardiff City this weekend (Saturday, November 30, kick-off 3pm) at the CBS Arena.
Coaches Joe Edwards and Chris Jones will support head coach Lampard in his new role.
Coventry owner and executive chairman, Doug King, said: “I am delighted that Frank Lampard has agreed to join our club as head coach.
“Frank cut his teeth in the Championship and knows what is needed in this League to be successful.
“His experiences thereafter at Chelsea and Everton will ensure he brings to our talented squad clear understanding of exactly what is needed to succeed at the very top level that we as a club are striving to reach.”
Coventry have been searching for a new manager since they sacked former boss Robins earlier this month.
Interim boss Rhys Carr guided the club to successive draws against Sunderland and Sheffield United before losing at Burnley in midweek following the departure of Robins.
Lampard makes a return to the dugout for the first time since the end of the 2022/23 season when he took caretaker charge of Chelsea.
He previously led Derby County to the Championship play-off final in his first season as a manager in 2018/19.
The 46-year-old first became manager at former club Chelsea in July 2019 but was later sacked by the Blues in January 2021.
Lampard then spent a year in charge of Everton as he successfully guided the Toffees to Premier League safety.
He returned to Chelsea as caretaker manager at the end of the 2022/23 campaign but won just one of his 11 games at the helm.
As a player, Lampard won three Premier League titles, four FA Cup’s, two League Cup’s, the Champions League and the Europa League with Chelsea.
