FOOTBALL - Coventry City claim first win under Frank Lampard at Millwall

FRANK Lampard claimed his first win as Coventry City head coach following a 1-0 victory at Millwall.

A second-half goal from Ephron Mason-Clark proved decisive at The Den as the Sky Blues ended their five-game winless run in the league.

The victory also marks City’s first success since the club sacked Mark Robins last month.

And the game took place in the midst of Storm Darragh as strong winds and rain swept across the country.

Coventry almost took the lead when Milan van Ewijk delivered a cross from the right and Lukas Jensen tipped Jack Rudoni’s header over the crossbar.

City spurned a glorious chance to break the deadlock after the interval when the ball fell into the path of Mason-Clark six-yards from goal only for Jensen to deny the forward from close range.

However, Mason-Clark atoned for his miss on 63 minutes when he volleyed home Rudoni’s cross from the right at the back post via the aid of the crossbar.

The Sky Blues almost added a second goal when Mason-Clark slipped in Rudoni as Jensen kept out the Midfielders effort from inside the box.

Millwall failed to seriously trouble Bradley Collins in the City goal in the closing stages before Bobby Thomas headed a corner against the post at the death.

Coventry claimed just their second away win of the season and now sit 14th in the Championship table, four points clear of the relegation zone.
