FOOTBALL - Frank Lampard pleased with Coventry City's 'personality' after Millwall win

FRANK Lampard praised Coventry City’s ‘personality’ after securing his first win as Sky Blues boss away at Millwall.

City picked up just their second away win of the season at The Den as Ephron Mason-Clark’s second-half volley proved decisive.

And Lampard felt his side reacted well to a slow first-half performance to come away from the capital with three points.

Lampard said: “I’m really pleased with the character and the personality of the team and it’s a nice win and it’s a small step forward because there’s a lot to do, but we’re very happy.

“I’ve known the players for over a week, you come in and they haven’t been winning games, so to break that you have to do more and move the ball quicker, we’re not here to move it slow and when you can get out, play forward.

“We need to be better with second balls and a bit more physical with our game and I saw that in the second half, and it was a great reaction.

“It’s hard to come here and get a result and we’ve done that.

“There were bodies on the line and throwing ourselves in front of shots and they will do that to everyone here, but we defended brilliantly, so it’s a great clean sheet.”

Mason-Clark scored the game’s only goal on 63 minutes when he volleyed home Jack Rudoni’s cross from the right at the back post.

The game took place in the midst of Storm Darragh as strong winds and rain swept across the country.

And Lampard praised the travelling Sky Blues fans for braving the treacherous conditions to support the team.

Lampard added: “The fans, I mean wow. That was my first experience of the away fans, and they were something special, so a big thanks to them.

“They support the team and if they support me that’s great, I have to show the work and what they will know is I will give everything, I’ll live it completely.

“I want to help and if I can do that, I’m very thankful. That support, travelling down in those numbers in these conditions is sensational.”

Coventry are next in action against West Bromwich Albion on Wednesday, December 11 with kick-off at 8pm at The Hawthorns.
