FRANK Lampard secured his first home win in charge of Coventry City with a come-from-behind 2-1 victory against bottom club Hull City.
Coventry trailed to Joao Pedro’s goal shortly before half time only for Ephron Mason-Clark and Jack Rudoni to turn the game on its head at the Coventry Building Society Arena.
The result means the Sky Blues now sit seven points clear of the Championship relegation zone.
City made a bright start as Victor Torp saw his powerful effort deflect over the crossbar following a well-worked move.
And Norman Bassette then headed Mason-Clark’s cross from the left over the bar from inside the six-yard box.
The Sky Blues remained on top as Rudoni picked out Mason-Clark in the box only for the forward to fire a shot into the side netting.
City almost broke the deadlock when Torp delivered a dangerous ball into the box from the right and Ivor Pandur tipped Ben Sheaf’s header over the bar.
However, Hull took the lead against the run of play on 43 minutes when Pedro reacted quickest to turn a loose ball into the net after Ryan Longman’s initial header came back off the post.
The Sky Blues equalised on 52 minutes as Torp’s cross from the right found Mason-Clark at the back post who turned the ball home with his face.
Hull almost reclaimed the lead when Longman drove into the box and cut inside of his man as Bradley Collins made a fine save low down to his left to tip the ball behind.
However, Coventry spurned a glorious chance to take the lead when Charlie Hughes fouled Bassette in the box only for Torp to see his penalty saved by Pandur.
The visitors went close at the other end as Collins again came to City’s rescue to tip Mason Burstow’s outside of the foot effort to safety.
However, the Sky Blues completed the turnaround on 72 minutes when Rudoni headed in from four-yards out after excellent work by Mason-Clark down the left-hand side.
And City had a chance to seal the points late on only for substitute Ellis Simms to see his header come back off the post.
Coventry are next in action against Portsmouth on Saturday, December 21 with kick-off at 12.30pm at Fratton Park.
