A FORMER Mayor and councillor of Nuneaton and Bedworth who served for 36 years has died.
Tony Lloyd was first elected as a ward councillor in May 1982 before retiring in May 2018.
He served on several committees, including the housing committee and culture and recreation and was also deputy council leader.
Mr Lloyd was borough mayor in 1992/93 with his late wife Irene his Mayoress.
Councillor Chris Watkins, leader of Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council, said: “We would like to send our condolences to Tony’s family and friends at this sad time.
“He was a dedicated councillor for many years, as well as being deputy council leader and member of several council committees.
“Tony also served as Borough Mayor and did an excellent job raising thousands of pounds for Nuneaton Hospital’s League of Friends and Anker Hospital Radio, which was his Mayoral Charity.”
Mr Lloyd’s son, Ian, was also a long serving Labour councillor and was Borough Mayor in 2003/4.
Details of Mr Lloyd’s funeral will be confirmed in due course.
