By analysing lottery draws, BoyleSports has been able to reveal both the highest and lowest lottery jackpots that we have seen from the National Lottery.
The National Lottery is a state-franchised national lottery which was introduced in 1994. This lottery is for the United Kingdom; it is currently operated by Allwyn Entertainment and the Camelot Group before them.
Prizes from the National Lottery are tax-free and can be claimed as a lump sum or over a set period (Set For Life).
BoyleSports collected data from all of the lottery draws since the 10th of October 2015, that is, over 950 draws, to find the highest and lowest jackpots.
In addition to the traditional lottery, there is now an online lotto available.
Top 5 Highest Jackpots
Interestingly, all five of the highest jackpots from the National Lottery took place between 2015 and 2016. This could be attributed to a number of reasons, including rule changes, increased rollovers, cap on rollovers, player interest and marketing.
The largest jackpot was drawn on Saturday, the 9th of January 2016. This equated to £66,070,646, which is £13,105,945 higher than that of its competitors.
In second place, there was a jackpot of £52,964,701. This was also drawn in 2016 on Wednesday 6th January.
Next on our list is a jackpot for £47,405,023, which was drawn on Saturday 2nd January 2026.
In Fourth place is a draw from 2015 on Wednesday, the 30th of December. This lottery jackpot was £42,659,371, and the last lottery draw, which managed to reach over 40 million pounds.
And finally, in fifth place is another lottery from December 2025 that was won on the 26th, reaching £39,529,852.
Top 5 Lowest Jackpots
While the National Lottery has had some record-breaking jackpots, it has also seen modest wins, especially in non-rollover draws. Here are the five smallest jackpots recorded:
Wednesday 11th April 2018 – £1,795,273
This is the lowest jackpot on record, reflecting the minimum prize pool often seen in non-rollover midweek draws.
Wednesday 14th March 2018 – £1,813,255
Another modest prize, this jackpot came just a month before the record-low draw.
Wednesday 30th May 2018 – £1,816,584
A similar figure that shows the consistency of smaller jackpot sizes when there are no significant rollovers or surplus funds.
Wednesday 25th July 2018 – £1,827,083
Midweek draws in 2018 frequently featured jackpots in this range, especially during quieter periods of player engagement.
Wednesday 22nd November 2017 – £1,855,244
Wrapping up the list is a draw from late 2017, showcasing the minimal baseline jackpots that can occur between the high-stakes rollover draws.
