NORMAN Bassette ‘knew he would score’ the winning penalty for Coventry City against Sheffield Wednesday in the FA Cup third round.
The 20-year-old Belgium international sealed City’s place in the fourth round from the spot following a 1-1 draw after extra time at the Coventry Building Society Arena.
And Bassette promised more goals are on the way having scored twice for the Sky Blues in the Championship this season.
Bassette said: “I said to the gaffer I want to have one penalty, and in my head, I knew I would score.
“No pressure, I knew I would score, and I scored. I did it for the fans and the team, so I am happy.
“No pressure. I am a striker. More goals will come I hope, because I am the striker and I love scoring, and every time I do, I am very happy, I have a good connection with the fans.
“I promise, I will score a lot of goals.”
After Liam Kitching fired the home side into the lead, Anthony Musaba equalised for the Owls in the third minute of injury time.
City eventually triumphed 4-3 on penalties following a goalless extra period and will host Premier League side Ipswich Town in the fourth round of the competition.
And young striker Bassette praised head coach Frank Lampard for showing faith in him following his appointment as Sky Blues boss in November.
Bassette added: “I am enjoying it in England. I am very good here and I hope to score a lot of goals.
“I said when the new gaffer came in, he has a good amount of confidence in me and so do I.
“Every time I play on this pitch, I work hard.
“I am happy because I helped the team with the last penalty. I am very happy for that.”
Coventry are next in action against Bristol City on Saturday, January 18 with kick-off at 3pm at the CBS Arena.
