COVENTRY Sphinx conceded twice in the final four minutes to suffer a 2-1 home defeat against AFC Rushden and Diamonds.
Sphinx were on course to secured a third straight league win courtesy of Harry Wakefield’s goal at the Sphinx Industrial Supplies Arena.
However, Jarvis Wilson drew Rushden level four minutes from time before Jamal Adams scored a last-minute winner to leave the home side stunned.
The result means Coventry sit 14th in the Northern Premier League Midlands table.
Sphinx took the lead on 20 minutes when Wakefield forced a shot past Adam Harrison in the Rushden goal from Kyle Carey’s cross from the left.
Rushden won a penalty five minutes later after Ethan Johnston went to ground in the box under a challenge from Kyle Burke.
However, Sphinx goalkeeper Charlie Woods made a superb stop, diving to his right, to keep out Cairo Taylor’s penalty.
The visitors equalised on 86 minutes as Wilson headed in from close range after Adams flicked Callum Ballinger’s pass into the scorer’s path.
And Rushden stunned Sphinx at the death when substitute Adams finished Taylor’s cross at the back past to haunt his former club.
Coventry are next in action against Sutton Coldfield Town on Tuesday, February 4 with kick-off at 7.45pm at the Sphinx Industrial Supplies Arena.
