FRANK Lampard suffered his first home defeat as Coventry City boss after the Sky Blues lost 2-0 against title-chasing Leeds United.
A pair of first-half goals from Joel Piroe and Jayden Bogle at the Coventry Building Society Arena saw City’s four-game winning run come to an end.
And the result means Coventry sit 11th in the Championship table, three points outside of the play-off places.
The visitors broke the deadlock on 17 minutes when Manor Solomon played in Piroe who produced a clinical finish into the bottom right corner.
And Leeds doubled their lead on 26 minutes when a howler from Oliver Dovin saw the Coventry goalkeeper spill the ball into the defender’s path who finished into an empty net.
Leeds had chances to extend their lead as Dan James lobbed the ball straight at Dovin before Joel Latibeaudiere made a last-ditch challenge to clear the winger’s square ball across the box.
The visitors continued to come forward at will in the first half as Piroe lashed a shot over the bar from a tight angle from inside the box.
City improved after the break and almost pulled a goal back as Illan Meslier somehow clawed Ellis Simms’ downward header from six-yards out to safety diving low down to his left.
Leeds should have wrapped up the points later in the half only for Dovin to superbly deny Piroe when one-on-one from close range.
And Dovin made another excellent stop to keep out substitute Largie Ramazani’s effort with his leg.
City introduced new signing Matt Grimes from the bench just past the hour mark.
And the Sky Blues came within inches of halving the deficit late on when Bobby Thomas met Grimes’ corner from the right only for Meslier to tip the defender’s header onto the crossbar.
Coventry are next in action against Ipswich Town in the FA Cup on Saturday, February 8 with kick-off at 3pm at the CBS Arena.
