FRANK Lampard could not hide his delight after Coventry City kept their momentum going with a late victory against Queens Park Rangers.

An injury-time header from Bobby Thomas saw the Sky Blues return to winning ways at the Coventry Building Society Arena after a pair of tough defeats against Leeds United and Ipswich Town respectively.

And Lampard praised his side’s ability from set-pieces having scored from corners in each of their last two matches.

Lampard said: “I absolutely loved it, it was a great feeling for everyone in the stadium.

“The players kept going and it’s been a busy, challenging week with the tough games that we’ve had, and this was another one of those.

“We kept going and I think we get the win we deserved, in terms of the week we’ve been through and the good run that we’re on in the league.

“It would have been easy to lose momentum, but we’ve managed to keep hold of it to a degree with a late winner.

“Set-plays are really important in the modern game and we work a lot on them and the players are very responsive to that and they are crucial and we go that moment.”

The Sky Blues snatched the points four minutes into injury time as Thomas headed Jack Rudoni’s corner from the right into an empty net with R’s goalkeeper Paul Nardi caught underneath the cross.

That came after City stopper Oliver Dovin made a crucial save low down to his left to keep out Michael Frey’s shot when one-on-one from eight-yards out earlier in the second half.

And with the Sky Blues now just one point outside of the play-off places, Lampard stressed the need for the club to maintain their standards if they are to achieve a top-six finish.

Lampard added: “We start again tomorrow, it’s good we have that good feeling, and it’s changed the face of where we are in the league, and it’s changed the feeling around the whole club.

“We have to keep our feet firmly planted and if we drop our standards then that won’t continue.

“It wasn’t perfect, we can be better than that. We have a lot of games to go and a lot of points to fight for, so we have to keep pushing on.”

Coventry are next in action against Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday, February 15 with kick-off at 3pm at Hillsborough.
