LUKE Shearer’s injury-time goal rescued a point for Coventry Sphinx in a 2-2 draw away at play-off chasing Sporting Khalsa.
Shearer levelled the game four minutes into injury time after Jamie Draper netted in the first half for the visitors at the Guardian Warehousing Arena.
The result means Coventry sit 16th in the Northern Premier League Midlands table, 11 points clear of the relegation zone.
Khalsa broke the deadlock on 16 minutes when Andre Landell beat the offside trap before coolly taking the ball around Charlie Woods and finishing into an empty net.
Sphinx equalised just two minutes later as Draper headed in Callum Woodward’s corner from the left unmarked at the back post from four-yards out.
Sporting reclaimed the lead 10 minutes from time when Kristian Green guided Robbie Bunn’s corner from the left into the left corner of the goal from 10-yards out.
However, Sphinx snatched a share of the spoils in the 94th minute as Jack Downes’ pass ran into the path of Shearer who curled a low shot into the bottom right corner from the edge of the penalty area.
Coventry are next in action against Sutton Coldfield Town on Tuesday, February 25 with kick-off at 7.45pm at Sphinx Industrial Supplies Arena.
