POLICE raided two cannabis farms in the north east of Coventry this week – seizing over 270 plants.
On Monday (February 24), officers found a cannabis farm where the electricity had been bypassed in Oliver Street, Foleshill.
They found 118 plants spread throughout the property in different stages of growth. The plants were seized and disposed of and the property made safe.
Enquiries are now ongoing to find those responsible. Anyone with information is asked to contact police via the Live Chat facility at www.westmidlands.police.uk, or by calling 101, quoting log 702 of February 24.
The following day, Coventry Police’s Gangs Team raided a house in Station Street East, where 158 plants were found in three growing rooms, an extensive lighting and ventilation system, and a number of containers filled with chemicals used to feed the plants.
A man in his 30s was arrested on suspicion of cultivating cannabis and abstracting electricity. He has since been charged and is due before magistrates in Coventry today (February 26).
A police spokesperson said: “Cannabis farms can have a devastating impact on the neighbourhoods where they are found.
“The illegally bypassed electricity can cause catastrophic fires, as cannabis farms are often found in terraced houses.
“Along with this, the crime and anti-social behaviour associated with cannabis farms impacts on the wider community.
“We use information from the public to plan and execute operations like these, and encourage anyone who is concerned about what is going on where they live to tell us what they know.”
