JAKE Bidwell insists Coventry City must keep their foot on the gas when they make the trip to Oxford United this weekend.
Bidwell played the full 90 minutes as the Sky Blues ended a 17-year wait for a league victory against Preston North End last weekend.
City have won seven of their last eight league games and Bidwell insists the challenge for Coventry is to continue their positive momentum.
Bidwell said: “It’s a really good place to be at the minute. Everyone is really positive and looking forward to the next few games.
“But in the back of our mind, we have to keep our foot on the gas because we’ve seen many times before, with ourselves and other teams that if you take your eye off the ball, then you get bitten pretty quickly.
“The lads are feeling really good, but the challenge for us now is to keep going.
“The mentality or the landscape changes, where there’s probably some expectation on us now for the first time in a while.
“We’ve got to manage that, but we have to keep our feet on the ground, keep doing what we’ve been doing and keep pushing the boundaries upwards and keep improving the performance levels.”
Opponents Oxford ejoyed a resurgence under head coach Gary Rowett following his appointment as U’s boss in December.
Bidwell expects Oxford to stay up in the Championship this season and insists Coventry will need to be at their best to come away with the points.
Bidwell added: “We have to focus on what we’re doing. They’re probably looking at it thinking they may need a few more wins to make sure.
“I think they’ll be fine anyway, but you know they probably want to get those wins and get it sewn up early.
“We know it will be a tough game, Gary Rowett’s teams are always competitive and he’s an experience manager at this level.
“It will be a tough game, and we need to make sure we’re at 100 per cent to make sure that we get a result.”
Coventry travel to Oxford on Saturday, March 1 with kick-off at 12.30pm at the Kassam Stadium.
