COVENTRY City moved into the Championship play-off places with a thrilling 3-2 victory against Oxford United.
Goals from Jack Rudoni, Ephron Mason-Clark and Tatsuhiro Sakamoto at the Kassam Stadium earned City an eighth win from their last nine league matches.
And the result means Coventry sit fifth in the Championship table, one point clear of the two teams below them in the standings.
The Sky Blues made the perfect start when Rudoni headed Sakamoto’s cross from the right past Jamie Cumming from six-yards out with just seven minutes on the clock.
However, Oxford equalised on 53 minutes as Ole Romeny finished Przemyslaw Placheta’s cutback despite an apparent shirt pull on Liam Kitching in the build-up to the goal.
City reclaimed the lead five minutes later when a loose touch from Oxford saw Mason-Clark and Cumming compete for a high ball and the former came out on top to nod the ball into an empty net from six-yards out.
Oxford levelled the game for a second time on 62 minutes when Elliott Moore headed in Tyler Goodrham’s corner from the left.
The Sky Blues won a penalty five minutes later with Will Vaulks penalised for a shirt pull on Bobby Thomas at a corner as Cumming kept out Ellis Simms’ tame spot kick diving to his right.
However, City won the game in style on 71 minutes as Jake Bidwell’s cross from the left ran through to Sakamoto at the back post who crashed an emphatic finish into the left corner of the goal via the aid of the post.
Coventry are next in action against Stoke City on Saturday, March 8 with kick-off at 12.30pm at the Coventry Building Society Arena.
