FOOTBALL - Mark Robins wants to move on from time in charge of Coventry City

MARK Robins wants to move on from his time in charge of Coventry City following defeat on his first return to his former club with new employers Stoke City.

Robins saw his first return to the Coventry Building Society Arena soured after Bobby Thomas scored a dramatic 97th minute winner.

Coventry supporters offered no sort of welcome to Robins before kick-off but showed their appreciation for their former boss by singing his name in unison as he headed down the tunnel at full time.

And Robins wants to move on from his near eight-year tenure in charge of Coventry, having won just two of his 11 matches in charge of Stoke since his appointment on New Year’s Day.

Robins said: “It’s been weird, it’s been strange, it’s not something that I let define me [his time at Coventry].

“When you’re at a place for so long, it’s like a pair of comfy slippers that you’re used to having on, we had some good times.

“People will never be able to take those away and a lot of people in the stadium have shared those experiences, it just brings a bond.

“It was really kind of everybody.

“Everybody moves on, likewise for me, I’m working for a new set of supporters and I’m really desperate to bring them some success because they’ve been starved of it.”

Since Coventry sacked Robins in November, the club have risen from 17th in the Championship table up to fifth.

And Robins refused to take any credit for laying the foundations of City’s recent up-turn in form with Frank Lampard’s side having won nine of their last 10 league games.

Robins added: “I’ve got so many friends and memories and people I’ve got to know over a lot of years here, it’s nice and people want to shake hands with you.

“On the back of a result like that and the timing of the goal, it’s difficult.

“I’m not taking [any credit for laying the foundations of Coventry’s form], I wouldn’t be arrogant enough to go ‘it’s all me’, it’s not about me, it’s down to Frank and his staff and the players that are here.

“It would be nice for other people to say that, but not for me.”
