BOBBY Thomas admits Coventry City need to keep grinding out wins when not at their best after scoring a dramatic late winner against Stoke City.
Thomas popped up with his second injury-time winner in the space of a month after lashing a shot into the bottom right corner in the 97th minute at the Coventry Building Society Arena.
And while Thomas cannot put his finger on the reason behind City’s stunning form, the defender stressed the importance of winning games despite the Sky Blues not being at their best.
Thomas said: “We are on a really good run at the moment.
“As long as we keep grinding these wins out when we are not at our best, this is very important.
“We are just doing the same things. We seem to be gelling, but I do not know what has clicked, where you can put a finger on it.
“Whatever it is, it is working.”
Coventry have won nine of their last 10 league games and sit fifth in the Championship table. Victory against Stoke saw the Sky Blues claim a fifth straight league win.
The Sky Blues let a two-goal lead slip prior to Thomas’s winner after Stoke substitute Sam Gallagher netted twice to cancel out Victor Torp’s first-half brace.
And Thomas admits City need to stop sitting back when taking the lead in games but praised his teammates for showing the belief to go and score a late winner.
Thomas added: “You have to just trust your process and everything you work on.
“They ended up getting back into it, two-all, that was when we knew we needed the belief and grit to go and get the winner, which we needed and which we got.
“We seem to sit back a little bit, when we take the lead, and I think we did the same again.
“We seem to sit off and then we dragged ourselves back out with that winner in the last minute.”
Coventry are next in action against Derby County on Tuesday, March 11 with kick-off at 7.45pm at Pride Park.
