FRANK Lampard hopes his Coventry City players will take inspiration from the club’s rise up the Championship table this season when they face Luton Town this weekend.
The Sky Blues know victory against the Hatters could secure a play-off spot if results elsewhere go in their favour.
City currently sit sixth in the table, three points clear of the chasing pack in the race for play-off spot.
At the other end of the division, Luton sit inside the relegation zone on goal difference and would move out of the bottom three with a victory.
And Lampard insists he and his players are fully aware of Luton’s situation with plenty riding on the fixture for both clubs.
Lampard said: “We have two games in front of us and we have to prepare well for, starting obviously against Luton.
“We understand what’s on it for them as well, so it will be a tough match, but we’re pretty calm and ready to go.
“It’s what we’re here for isn’t it, particularly from where we’ve come from this season and how we’ve moved up the league, I think it gives us even more inspiration to try and get there.
“We’ve moved up the table a lot and being consistent right to the end isn’t easy, because this league isn’t easy, but we know what we need to do, we understand exactly what the situation is.”
Coventry suffered a shock 3-1 defeat at bottom club Plymouth Argyle on Easter Monday in a blow to City’s top-six hopes.
And with the Sky Blues taking on another relegation-threatened side this weekend, Lampard is expecting a strong atmosphere at Kenilworth Road.
Lampard added: “In terms of the game, Luton will be different in terms of their in a similar shape to Plymouth, but there are different ways that they perform and how they play and how aggressive they are off the ball in different areas of the pitch, so the players have to be aware of that.
“Both teams have a lot riding on the game in our own ways. Their last result was a very good one and they’re fighting so we understand what it is.
“It will be a strong atmosphere for them and our away following will be strong for us, so it’s a good atmosphere to play in.”
Coventry travel to Luton on Saturday, April 26 with kick-off at 12.30pm at Kenilworth Road.
