A BULL fostered by a south Warwickshire animal sanctuary has achieved worldwide fame thanks to a children’s book detailing his rescue.
Nero the bull was initially taken in by south Warwickshire-based Farm Animal Rescue Sanctuary after beng rescued five years ago from a petting zoo by a group of people including author Jodie Barchha-Lang.
Jodie – also known as Green Vegan – was inspired to write Nero the Brave Little Bull, which tells the story of his journey from the petting farm to his now permanent home at the Retreat Animal Sanctuary in Kent.
Coventry youngster Bayley is among Nero’s many fans thanks to Jodie’s book – which has proved popular as far as the USA and Australia.
After reading how Nero was forced to leave the petting farm and his mum, five-year-old Bayley insisted she needed to travel the 150 miles to Kent to visit him to give him her teddy.
She said: “I love animals so much. I wanted to see him because we read the book and because I care for animals.”
The tot’s mum Sarah described Nero as ‘gentle and calm’ when they met him, happily receiving a cuddle – and a teddy – from Bayley.
The affectionate bull, whose petting zoo life means he’s accustomed to human interaction, even went viral after he was filmed leaning down to allow a youngster to pet him.
