FOOTBALL - Sunderland move pitchside boards to stop Coventry City's long throws ahead of crunch play-off clash

SUNDERLAND have moved their pitchside LED boards in an attempt to thwart Coventry City’s long throws ahead of tonight’s play-off clash.

The two teams face off in a crunch play-off semi-final second leg at the Stadium of Light tonight (Tuesday, May 13) with kick-off at 8pm.

And the Black Cats have opted to move their pitchside boards in by two metres to try and stop Coventry from utilising Milan van Ewijk’s long throw.

The defender often launches the ball into the box from both sides of the pitch several times throughout the 90 minutes.

However, he will have little space to run-up and generate the power he normally does with the boards so close in to the pitch.

Coventry have scored 23 goals from crosses and 19 headed goals – more than any other side in the Football League this season.

The Sky Blues need to overturn a one-goal deficit at the Stadium of Light after slipping to a late 2-1 defeat in the first leg.
