DOUG King insists Coventry City’s journey under head coach Frank Lampard is only just starting.
Coventry’s owner and executive chairman King looked back on the club’s season in an open message to the club’s supporters.
The Sky Blues saw their season come to an end following a heartbreaking Championship play-off semi-final defeat against Sunderland.
However, Coventry rose from 17th in the table up to fifth following King’s decision to replace former boss Mark Robins with Lampard in November.
And King reaffirmed his desire to end the club’s 24-year absence from the Premier League.
King said: “Our team dominated over the two play-off legs yet came away empty handed.
“I saw how devastated all our players and coaching staff were last night and how hard that result was to stomach but, as always, they handled themselves magnificently in what were difficult circumstances after the final whistle.
“Since Frank Lampard and the new coaching team joined us in late November 2024, instilling a new confidence and tactical know-how, Coventry City surged once again on an upward trajectory and made it to the play-offs for the second time in three years.
“I would like to thank Frank, his team and our players for turning a challenging season into one filled with ambition, hope, and genuine excitement for the future of our football club.
“I would also like to thank you for your unwavering support throughout this incredible season.
“Your passion, loyalty, and belief in Coventry City Football Club have been the driving force behind every match. Your encouragement from the stands has meant everything to us and we cannot fulfil our ambitions without you and your commitment to the cause.
“With a full summer ahead to prepare, I, like many of you, am eager to see what we can accomplish over a full Championship season with Frank at the helm.
“Three times in the last three years we have been involved at the highest level in huge games on the national and international stage.
“Whilst narrowly failing to get over the line, these important experiences will fuel our determination to come back stronger and hungrier than ever.
“So, let’s put our achievements into perspective, celebrate how far we’ve come but be certain that more is ahead as our club strives to regain its place in the top league in England.
“Our journey is just starting and with your continued support, we know we have what it takes to succeed.”
