RUGBY UNION - Coventry Rugby head coach Rae wants to give departing players 'good send-off' ahead of final game of season

ALEX Rae wants to give the club’s departing players a good send-off ahead of Coventry Rubgy’s final game of the season this weekend.

Rae’s men close out the 2024/25 Championship Rugby season with a home match against London Scottish.

And with a number of players departing the club at the end of the campaign, Rae hopes his side can finish the season on a high.

Rae said: “It would be really nice to give the players who are moving on a good sendoff, and the fans as well, they have been magnificent.

“We want to finish well. We won’t be coasting into the weekend, we will be working really hard to finish well against a really good and dangerous Scottish team.”

Coventry suffered a 55-38 defeat against champions Ealing Trailfinders in their penultimate game of the campaign.

Both Jordon Poole and Suva Ma’asi crossed twice while Senitiki Nayalo also touched down for the visitors at Trailfinders Sports Club.

The referee also awarded Coventry a penalty try only for Ealing to run in nine tries of their own in a high-scoring contest in the capital.

And Rae praised the commitment of his players for refusing to lie down against Ealing despite the champions running in nine tries.

Rae added: “It was always going to be tough, particularly on the day that they were getting the trophy, but the players were magnificent with their effort and commitment.

“It would have been easy at times to lie down and take a good pasting but they seemed to find something to come back every time.

“We have boys who are leaving, some who are on loan, and they just rolled up their sleeves and got on with it.

“We actually finished stronger than they did, we could have downed tools but we didn’t and that shows big commitment to the shirt.

“In years gone by, they [Ealing] might have slipped up once or twice.

“Now, with how they use their squad and rotation, they have three or four players who don’t let them down in each position. They are very worthy winners.”

Coventry finish the season with a home game against London Scottish on Saturday, May 31 with kick-off at 3pm at Butts Park Arena.
