COMMUNITY-spirited residents in Coventry gave their neighbourhood a spring clean during Volunteers Week.
A team assembled by Voluntary Action Coventry (VAC) got busy cleaning up rubbish from Alderman’s Green Industrial Estate in Potters Green.
Armed with grabbers, bin bags and gloves, the litter-picking task force – comprising volunteers from the area alongside participants from VAC’s Improving Lives Volunteering course – collected over 14 bags of rubbish from the area, which is popular with residents as a route to the adjoining Wyken Slough nature reserve.
Inspired by the community spirit on display, Caroline’s Snack Van – which has been serving the estate for 25 years – kindly donated free hot drinks to the volunteers.
The group finished off with a visit to Coventry City Mission, a charity offering a variety of support such as a pay-as-you-feel-cafe and food bank.
Francesca Middleton, Volunteering Coordinator for VAC, said: “Huge thanks to all our volunteers for giving up your time to step up – we’ve had an amazing time and the results need to be seen to be believed.
“We’re all about championing volunteering – we help people to engage with their community to build the future they want to see and the neighbourhood they want to live in.
“VAC supports people across the city who want to do good in their community and matches them with community organisations who are actively seeking volunteers.”
