Coventry schoolkids complete railway adventure

CHILDREN from a Coventry primary school have completed a railway adventure across eight iconic locations as part of a landmark celebration.

Pupils from St Patrick’s Catholic Primary School have visited some of the country’s most popular rail destinations as part of the Railway 200 project, which is celebrating 200 years of the modern railway.

The project saw every year group take part in train journeys to different locations across the country, covering hundreds of miles with many pupils travelling by train for the very first time.

Following reception children’s visit to Paddington Station for a teddy bears’ picnic, classes visited Bletchley, Woburn Sands, Bournville, Waterloo, Widney Manor, Malvern Link and Brockenhurst, taking in sights, sketching what they saw from the train, and discovering how rail travel connects people and places.

The project not only celebrates the history of the railway but also encourages new generations to consider careers in rail and engineering, as well as explore unfamiliar parts of the country.

The school’s Assistant Vice Principal Elise Liggins said: “Railway 200 has been a brilliant opportunity for our pupils to get out into the wider world, experience travelling by train, and take learning beyond the classroom as part of a nationwide project.

“The children thoroughly enjoyed seeing new places, and developed a better understanding of how the railway connects people across the country, both in the past and today. It’s been a fun and memorable way to explore future career ideas too.

“It’s been a fantastic school-wide project for the summer term.”
