In yet another blockbuster transfer window, the Premier League is brimming with fresh talent and sky-high expectations.
With over £1.6bn spent once again, all eyes will be on the new arrivals as they look to make an immediate impact and help make their side more favourable in the Premier League betting.
Here are four of the most intriguing summer signings set to take centre stage on the opening weekend of the 2025/26 campaign.
Florian Wirtz – Liverpool
Signed from: Bayer Leverkusen
Fee: £116m
Liverpool haven’t held back in the transfer market this summer, splashing more than £300m to refresh their title-winning squad. The crown jewel of that spending spree is Florian Wirtz, the German sensation signed for a club-record £116m from Bayer Leverkusen.
Wirtz arrives with a reputation as one of Europe’s most technically gifted and creative forwards. Just 22, he’s already starred in the Bundesliga and impressed on the international stage. At Liverpool, he could form a devastating front line alongside Mohamed Salah and—should the rumoured move materialise—Alexander Isak, who may yet surpass Wirtz as the club’s most expensive signing.
Wirtz is expected to start under the lights at Anfield when Liverpool host Bournemouth on opening night. With a packed home crowd and the world watching, it’s the perfect stage for the Reds’ new No.10 to introduce himself to English football.
João Pedro – Chelsea
Signed from: Brighton & Hove Albion
Fee: £60m
Chelsea’s pursuit of a reliable goalscorer has felt endless under Todd Boehly’s ownership, but the Blues are hoping they’ve finally found their man in João Pedro.
Signed from Brighton for £60m, Pedro has wasted no time making his presence felt. Called up mid-holiday to join Chelsea’s Club World Cup campaign, he scored twice against former club Fluminense in the semi-final and added another in the 3-0 demolition of Paris Saint-Germain in the final.
Now, Enzo Maresca needs him to replicate that form in the Premier League. The Blues kick off their domestic season at home to FA Cup winners Crystal Palace—a tough opening test, but one in which they will be favourites in the football odds.
If Pedro hits the ground running, Chelsea might finally have the cutting edge they’ve been craving.
Viktor Gyökeres – Arsenal
Signed from: Sporting Lisbon
Fee: £55m
Arsenal’s recent title bids have come up just short, and many point to the lack of a clinical striker as the missing ingredient. Enter Viktor Gyökeres.
The Swedish striker arrives with incredible numbers—39 goals in 33 league appearances for Sporting Lisbon last season—and a reputation as one of Europe’s most lethal finishers. Arsenal have invested £55m in the hope that he can be the final piece in Mikel Arteta’s puzzle.
But Gyökeres’ debut comes with added drama: a trip to Old Trafford to face Manchester United, now managed by his former Sporting boss, Ruben Amorim. It’s a heavyweight clash and a fascinating personal subplot. If Gyökeres can deliver on opening day, Arsenal’s title credentials will get an early boost.
Bryan Mbeumo – Manchester United
Signed from: Brentford
Fee: £71m
Bryan Mbeumo lit up the league last season with Brentford, notching 20 goals and seven assists to help the Bees to a top-half finish. That form earned him a £71m switch to Manchester United, who are desperate for reinvention under Ruben Amorim.
With United finishing 15th last season and falling short in the Europa League final, the pressure is firmly on. Mbeumo’s energy, intelligence and end product make him a perfect fit for Amorim’s system, and he’s expected to slot straight into the attack.
His first test? A clash with title hopefuls Arsenal. If Mbeumo can strike early against a rival contender, it could signal a turning point in United’s fortunes—and his own emergence as one of the league’s most dangerous forwards.
