FRANK Lampard is targeting ‘forward improvements’ as Coventry City prepare to travel to Derby County this weekend.
The Sky Blues are seeking their first league win of the season following a goalless draw at Hull City on the opening day of the campaign.
And following a 1-0 victory against Luton Town in the Carabao Cup in midweek, Lampard admits City must improve going forward.
Lampard said: “It’s been a busy week. I thought we had a pretty good performance against Hull and deserved to win the game.
“But we didn’t, so we have to look at how we can improve going forward.
“Then against Luton we made changes. I think the performance of the game was pretty decent, can be better.
“But we got a win that was crucial to go through to the next round and now we focus on a really tough game.
“It’s been a busy week, but we have to be ready.”
Coventry head coach Lampard began his managerial career with the Rams in the 2018/19 season.
And Lampard praised the work of current Derby boss John Eustace after he kept the Rams in the Championship last term.
Lampard added: “It was a good period, and I enjoyed my year there. We were very close to promotion.
“It was my first job and the squad and the work we had to do, I think it was a great challenge and it was a really enjoyable year.
“I enjoyed being at the club, it’s a very big club with a very good support, as we do of course so it’s going to be a tough match.
“It’s their first home match and they are a team that have brought in a lot of players, a team that the manager will have had some time now to sort of enforce his ideas and style and how he wants to be with them.
“John came in and did a really good job with them to keep them in the league last year.
“He made them very difficult to beat, a team with a lot of passion and desire.”
Coventry travel to Derby on Saturday, August 15 with kick-off at 12.30pm at Pride Park.
