TEAM MI Racing’s riders are ending the time trial season with a flourish after triumphing at multiple events.

The Coventry-based team claimed victory at Leamington Cycling and Athletics Club’s 10-mile race and the Legato Racing Team 25-mile race.

Nuneaton-based David Mead and Rugby-based rider Zoe Shepherd won the male and female categories respectively at Leamington’s 10-mile race.

And Mead and Shepherd repeated the feat at the Legato event while Team MI Racing also won the team prizes in both races.

Elsewhere, Tom Parsons made a strong start to the cyclo-cross and hill climb season with a third place finish in the Sitwell Cycling Club Reservoir Road Hill Climb.

Competing against national level competition, Parsons powered up the 700-metre long climb in a time of one minute 18.7 seconds – just four seconds behind the winning time.

Team MI Racing also sent 11 riders to compete in round one of the West Midlands Cyclo-Cross League across categories from junior to the veteran 60-plus age group.

The team secured three of the first five places in the veteran 50-plus race with Kenilworth’s Darren Atkins in second, Nick Popham fourth and new signing Andrew Owen in fifth.

Further back, teammates Christian Morgan, Andy Jackson and Alan Buxcey finished 17th, 37th and 44th respectively.

In the veteran 60-plus race, Coventry rider Pete Busby finished ninth.

And in the combined junior, senior and veteran 40-plus race, Jefferson Tear-Verweij finished fourth in the junior category with Jack O’Neill ninth in the senior race.

In the veteran 40-plus race, Colin Miller finished 10th with teammate Tom Bradley just behind in 12th place.

Former league winner Nick Whitley missed the event with the Wrexham-based rider in training for the Gravel World Championships which take place in the Netherlands in early October.

Out on the road, Team MI Racing’s young signing James Bacon endured a busy few weeks of racing.

The Stratford-based 18-year-old took part in the Junior Race of South Wales – competing against some of the best junior riders in the United Kingdom.

The four-stage race took place over three days with the opening stage a 76km sprinters’ circuit race, stage two a 10km time trial, stage three a 106km road stage and stage four a 112km climbers’ road stage.

Bacon finished 22nd overall in the general classification, just four minutes and 54 seconds behind the overall winner, with his best individual placing 17th in the individual time trial.

The teenager then raced in the Nick Clayton Memorial Road Race where he finished 22nd overall after an early mechanical issue saw him miss the chance to join the breakaway group.

And Bacon finished 17th overall in the Beaston Road Race over a 90km distance.
