AN INSPIRED display from Coventry City goalkeeper Carl Rushworth saw the first M69 derby of the season with Leicester City end goalless.

Rushworth made nine saves, including a crucial second-half stop to deny Stephy Mavididi, in a stalemate at the King Power Stadium.

The draw preserves Coventry’s unbeaten start to the Championship season with Frank Lampard’s side still in the play-off places.

Leicester went close inside the first 20 seconds as Bobby Thomas deflected Jordan Ayew’s scuffed effort into the side netting.

The Foxes forced Rushworth into a save soon after as the Sky Blues stopper comfortably held Abdul Fatawu’s deflected strike from distance.

Coventry responded with a couple of chances of their as Wout Faes cleared a dangerous loose ball to safety before Jack Rudoni glanced a header wide.

The best chance of the first half fell to Jordan James with Rushworth at full stretch to tip the midfielder’s curling effort behind for a corner.

Rushworth held another effort from Mavididi soon after and also kept out a shot from Faes from distance as the first period ended goalless.

The visitors improved after the break as Jakub Stolarczyk kept out Rudoni’s powerful effort from inside the box.

And the Sky Blues came within inches of taking the lead just before the hour mark as Haji Wright lashed a shot across the face of goal and narrowly wide with the goalkeeper beaten.

Leicester spurned a golden chance to break the deadlock from the next attack as Rushworth stuck out a leg to deny Mavididi when one-on-one from 12-yards out.

The home side continued to probe and created another good opening for James who scuffed a shot straight at Rushworth when well-placed in the box.

And Rushworth then held substitute Julian Carranza’s tame back-post header after Fatawu floated a cross into the box from the right.

However, neither team could carve out another clear-cut chance as the game ended in stalemate.
