CARL Rushworth insists he is ‘building trust’ with the defenders in front of him after recording a clean sheet in Coventry City’s M69 derby stalemate against Leicester City.
Rushworth kept his second clean sheet for the Sky Blues since joining on loan from Brighton and Hove Albion at the King Power Stadium.
The goalkeeper made nine saves in the derby clash and believes Coventry will enjoy a successful season as he continues to build a trusting relationship with his defence.
Rushworth said: “It’s still only the start of the season so we’re just going to keep growing, trusting each other and relying on each other a lot more.
“That’s what will make us really successful, we can have each other’s backs and demand from each other day in day out. It’s been a positive start.
“It shows the desire we’ve got as a collective and it’s a really special group to be part of.
“I’m really enjoying playing again. Hopefully we can continue this unbeaten run and keep putting points on the board and keep challenging.”
The 24-year-old’s most impressive stop saw him deny Stephy Mavididi when one-on-one in the box as he stuck out a leg to keep the game goalless.
And Rushworth feels Coventry have gained a point following the draw which preserves the club’s unbeaten start to the season.
Rushworth added: “It was a really good performance from the team. We were under pressure for a lot of the game but we dug deep and everybody put their body on the line.
“Thankfully when I was called upon I was able to help the players in front of me out like they were helping me out throughout the whole game.
“It’s a point gained, it wasn’t as one-sided as I thought in the moment, we had our chances and could have walked away with three points.
“It was good to see that all the work throughout the week has paid off.”
Coventry are next in action against Birmingham City on Saturday, September 27 with kick-off at 12.30pm at the Coventry Building Society Arena.
