FOOTBALL - Coventry City under-21s cruise to victory at Crewe

COVENTRY City under-21s cruised to a comfortable 4-0 win away at Crewe Alexandra to move up to second in the table.

The young Sky Blues took an early lead courtesy of Callum Perry’s penalty before Elliot Betjemann doubled City’s advantage before the break.

And further goals from Rylie Siddall and Alfie Wright sealed a comprehensive victory for Mark Delaney’s side at Crewe’s academy ground.

The result means Coventry’s sit second in the Professional Development League North standings.

City broke the deadlock after just four minutes when Perry scored from the penalty spot after Stan Dancey pulled back Josh Toluwaloju in the box.

And Coventry doubled their lead on 38 minutes as Betjemann’s free-kick from just outside the penalty area found the net via the aid of the post.

Siddall all but sealed the points for City on 57 minutes after Crewe gave the midfielder too much time to pick his spot.

And Wright completed the scoring three minutes from time as the young Sky Blues secured their biggest win of the season so far.

Coventry’s under-21s are next in action against Hull City on Tuesday, October 7 with kick-off at 1pm at the Coventry Building Society Arena.
