FRANK Lampard wants Coventry City to carry their confident start to the season into this weekend’s clash against Birmingham City.
The Sky Blues are unbeaten in the Championship this season following a goalless draw in the M69 derby against Leicester City last time out.
And Lampard wants his players to feed into their confident start to the campaign against newly-promoted Birmingham.
Lampard said: “We’re unbeaten and on paper we should have won pretty much every game.
“We have to carry that confidence. You want to feed off of that but you also have to understand this league and be a realist.
“We must continue with those levels. We need to keep going. The derby element will bring an extra touch to it which is good.”
Coventry head into the derby clash level on points with former landlords Birmingham but ahead of their rivals on goal difference.
Sky Blues head coach Lampard expects a tough test against Blues and expects their opponents to arrive at the Coventry Building Society Arena in a confident mood.
Lampard added: “Birmingham deserve their own respect because of the squad they have and the depth they have and style they came up with.
“They won League One with a record points total. They’ve invested now they’ve stepped up a level. The feeling around the club means they’re pretty confident.
“Nothing in management is quite as rewarding as playing. There is a bigger responsibility as a whole.
“But in terms of the individual relationships, when you see a player grow through the work and perform well, you get a real good sense and feeling from it.
“Some players have talent and don’t understand [the hard work side of it]. Some players have talent and do and they’re the ones that become top players.”
Coventry host Birmingham on Saturday, September 27 with kick-off at 12.30pm at the Coventry Building Society Arena.
