FOOTBALL - Matt Grimes admits Coventry City are playing with 'perfect mix' after Sheffield Wednesday victory

MATT Grimes admits Coventry City are playing with the ‘perfect mix’ of detail and freedom after thrashing Sheffield Wednesday.

Grimes captained the Sky Blues to another impressive victory as City cruised to a 5-0 win at Hillsborough.

The result saw Coventry move top of the Championship table and Grimes insists the Sky Blues must back up their recent performances after the international break.

Grimes said: “I don’t think you can look at the table too much. It’s still very early days.

“We’re more focused on our consistency and how we can keep improving game-by-game.

“We have to follow it up after the international break. We’re in a brilliant place.

“We’re playing with the perfect mix of detail and freedom.

“There’s going to be highs and lows. We’ll just keep working, keep cracking on and see where it takes us.

“We’re such a tight-nit group. The camaraderie among the lads is second to none. It’s one of the best dressing rooms I’ve been involved in.”

Frank Lampard’s enjoyed the perfect week, scoring 12 goals and conceding none in wins against Birmingham City, Millwall and Wednesday.

And Grimes heaped praise on Coventry’s forward players with the Sky Blues already scoring 27 league goals this season – 12 more than any other side in the division.

Grimes added: “It’s been a really good week. [This performance] is the most impressive, not just because of the goals but because of the quick turnaround.

“The lads left it all out there, we were a little bit sloppy in the first half but it’s a good result nonetheless.

“It’s incredible [to score five goals away from home in the Championship]. You can see the amount of confidence our front lads are playing with at the minute.

“The attacking players are an absolute force at the minute.

“We’ve been really good in both boxes, not just the amount of goals we’ve scored but it’s four clean sheets in a row now.”

Coventry are next in action against Blackburn Rovers on Saturday, October 18 with kick-off at 3pm at the Coventry Building Society Arena.
