TONY Pulis has urged Frank Lampard to remain at Coventry City despite reportedly attracting interest from other clubs.
Lampard’s side sit top of the Championship table with the Sky Blues unbeaten after their first nine league matches.
The Coventry boss has been tentatively linked to the vacant managerial position at Scottish giants Rangers.
However, two-time promotion winner Pulis believes Lampard should remain with the Sky Blues to continue his journey with the club.
Speaking to Grosvenor Casino, Pulis said: “I like to see English managers do well.
“I think there’s massive input from foreign managers coming into the country, and it sometimes overrides the opportunity for younger managers.
“Or even for managers like Frank Lampard, who’ve been top players, to get a chance.
“I think the big thing for me is that he’s had his ups and downs along the way, more downs than ups – but he’ll be stronger and better for it.
“I think this is a great journey he’s on at the moment. People are already talking about him going to other clubs.
“If I were Frank, he’s started something there that looks really, really good, and I’d continue that for a good while yet.”
Coventry have scored a remarkable 27 goals in just nine league games this season – 12 more than any other side in the division.
Pulis praised City’s impressive start to the campaign and feels the club must capitalise on their momentum and belief.
Pulis added: “What has surprised me is the number of goals Coventry have scored.
“They’ve been absolutely phenomenal in their goal return. It hasn’t surprised me that they’re in contention.
“They finished strongly last year and have just carried that on.
“It’s very early in the season, especially in the Championship, to start picking favorites, I just think they’ve had such a great start.
“Momentum and belief are important, and I’m sure at the moment, Coventry’s momentum and belief are at their peak.
“It’s when they have a bad time, or when they get a couple of poor results, that we’ll see if they have the character, togetherness, and understanding to pull themselves back up.
“Having said that, they have really started on fire.”
