BRANDON Thomas-Asante will not rest on his laurels after he scored a brace in Coventry City’s midweek win against Portsmouth.
The forward moved onto eight goals for the season with a double at Fratton Park to top the Championship scoring charts alongside teammate Haji Wright.
Thomas-Asante managed just four league goals in 36 league games last term as he battled a number of injury problems throughout the campaign.
However, the 26-year-old praised his teammates for helping him make a flying start to the season.
Thomas-Asante said: “Part of it is last season, I was suffering with a bit of an injury and trying to play through it.
“I wanted to make an impact in my first season but not being at 100 per cent was really frustrating.
“Working with the manager from the start of the season and having a pre-season is always a strength and a positive thing.
“You can get the building blocks in tactically and physically which helps and little bits off the pitch after training.
“The boys are making it really easy and I’m so grateful to have these teammates.
“I just want to keep on working. Anything can happen tomorrow. You don’t want to rest on eight goals.”
League leaders Coventry secured a fifth straight league win against Pompey with the Sky Blues unbeaten in their first 11 games of the season.
And Thomas-Asante feels City are learning how to win different types of games after changing system in the victory at Fratton Park.
Thomas-Asante added: “I’m really happy. It’s never easy coming to Fratton Park.
“We’ve got the memories of last year so we had to be resilient the whole way through.
“That’s a result of the spirit we’ve had that we’ve been building since last season.
“We’re learning how to get results in different sorts of games.”
Coventry are next in action against Watford on Saturday, October 25 with kick-off at 12.30pm at the Coventry Building Society Arena.
