JAMIE Allen insists he is ready to play whenever needed after scoring in Coventry City’s win against Watford.

The midfielder found the net for the first time since the final day of the 2023/24 campaign on just his second league start of the season.

And the 30-year-old expressed his desire to give his all for the team when needed on the pitch.

Allen said: “We’ve started really well and all we want to do is keep this run up.

“We dug in at the end. It’s another win on the board, that’s all that matters and we’re very happy.

“We want to keep playing the way we have been doing.

“Our focus at the moment is to take it a game at a time and keep trying to tick those wins off.

“I’m ready whenever [the gaffer] needs me, even if it’s off the bench or starting.

“I’ll give 100 per cent for this team and hopefully I did that.”

Allen doubled City’s lead with a fierce drive into the bottom corner after Brandon Thomas-Asante’s header put the Sky Blues ahead.

And Tatsuhiro Sakamoto extended Coventry’s advantage while Watford had James Abankwah sent off before the break.

The Hornets reduced the deficit after the break courtesy of Imran Louza’s penalty.

However, Coventry marched to a sixth successive league win to extend their unbeaten run to 12 matches and remain top of the Championship table.

And Allen admits the Sky Blues wanted to make a quick start against the Hornets as City struck twice in the opening seven minutes.

Allen added: “I’m really pleased to contribute to the team with a goal. It’s nice to score once in a while.

“We planned to go out there really quickly and tried to put our foot our down.

“They had a few chances but Tats scored at just the right time.

“We needed to come out in the second half and do what we did in the first half.

“But they were good on the counter attack and very quick so we had to be careful of that.

“We grafted to keep the three points. We’re a team and we stick together when things are going a bit down on us.”

Coventry are next in action against Wrexham on Friday, October 31 with kick-off at 8pm at the Racecourse Ground.
