FRANK Lampard praised the legacy of his predecessor Mark Robins exactly one to the year day since Coventry City sacked their former boss.
Lampard and Robins will lock horns this weekend when the Sky Blues travel to Stoke City in a top-of-the-table clash.
It marks the second meeting between the two managers since Lampard replaced Robins in the Coventry Building Society Arena dugout last November.
And Lampard insists the legacy of Robins, who achieved two promotions with the club while also reaching a Championship play-off final and FA Cup semi-final, will always remain.
Lampard said: “Mark’s legacy and status at the club remains no matter what because of the context and difficulties the club were in at the time.
“I’m very aware of that. That never gets lost. Now he’s doing his new thing and I’ve been doing my thing here for nearly a year.
“They’re a strong team. They’re playing well and scoring goals but we can only control ourselves and how we approach the game.
“Nothing’s given, we have to go and fight for it. What we’ve done to this point is great but it’s going to be very tough because they’re a good team.”
Coventry sit four points clear of Stoke at the top of the table following a come-from-behind 3-1 win against Sheffield United in midweek.
And Lampard hopes his players will use the good feeling garnered from the victory when making the trip to Stoke this weekend.
Lampard added: “We’ve had a good start to the season and we’ve made a lot of games go our way in different ways.
“It’s not realistic to say that everything will go your way all the time. You cannot get to where we want to get to without having games where you’re going to get tested.
“Those challenges are there for a reason. The players can take a good feeling out of turning the [Sheffield United] game around in the way they did.
“There’ll be other times when we need to do that and they showed a lot of strength of character and their qualities to do it.”
Coventry travel to Stoke on Saturday, November 8 with kick-off at 3pm at the bet365 Stadium.
